D4i (DALI for IoT) is the DALI-2 extension aimed at connected luminaires (smart luminaires), adding standardised support for IoT data: energy consumption, lifecycle (operating hours, switching cycles), GPS positioning and manufacturer identification.

D4i layers a set of standardised IoT memory banks on top of DALI-2: MB201/202 hold luminaire diagnostic and asset data (vendor, GTIN, model), MB203/204 hold energy data (cumulative kWh, instantaneous W), MB205 holds luminaire features, and MB206 holds control-gear health (temperature, cycles). The result is real-time monitoring of each street-lighting luminaire and predictive maintenance, making D4i the de-facto standard for modern outdoor lighting.
When choosing D4i drivers, confirm support for the specific memory banks your platform actually reads — many drivers are labelled 'D4i certified' yet only populate a subset.
