Question

A modern KNX/DALI gateway can schedule and trigger function tests and duration tests on DT1 emergency luminaires per EN 50172, and report the results to the KNX supervisor via Group Objects of type DPT 1.001 (test OK) or DPT 232 (multi-status).

Answer

True

The automated emergency-test workflow is: (1) the KNX/DALI gateway schedules monthly and annual tests at a programmed time (typically Sunday night); (2) it issues a Function Test or Duration Test command to each DT1 emergency luminaire on the bus; (3) each luminaire returns a status (OK, low battery, lamp fault); (4) results are pushed onto KNX as Group Objects per luminaire or aggregated by zone; (5) faults raise an alarm forwarded by SMS or email to maintenance. For a stock of 50-200 emergency luminaires, removing the manual walk-round saves roughly 3-10 kEUR per year.

Preparation tip

Always reserve a maintenance window after duration tests — a freshly tested battery may take 12 to 24 hours to fully recharge and would not pass another duration test in that interval.
