Question

PA-DIM (Process Automation Device Information Model) is an OPC UA Companion Specification for process transmitters (temperature, pressure, flow, level), standardising 70+ parameters that are read identically on Endress+Hauser, Yokogawa, Siemens and ABB devices.

OPC UALearnCompanion SpecsHard
Answer

True

PA-DIM standardises the way process transmitters expose their data over OPC UA. The model covers the Process Value with its unit, status and limits; the configuration block with range, damping and calibration parameters; the diagnostic block aligned with NAMUR NE 107 error codes; and the asset block with tag, location and manufacturer. Because the spec is cross-vendor, the same MES or SCADA code reads from an Endress+Hauser transmitter and from a Yokogawa transmitter without rework, which puts an end to the integration fragmentation that has plagued process automation for decades.

Preparation tip

When specifying new process instrumentation, add a line in the tender requiring PA-DIM conformance: vendors who comply will save you weeks of mapping work compared with custom DTM/EDD integration.
