EnOcean dominates the no-rewire residential retrofit market for three reasons. Wireless self-powered push-buttons can be stuck to any wall without chasing in cable. Sensors for temperature, presence and window contact extend the system without adding maintenance burden. Gateways such as Eltako eFusion, NodOn Gateway and various HomeBridge / Home Assistant integrations expose the devices to HomeKit, Google Home, Alexa or Matter. Compared with Wi-Fi, there is no router saturation and no power draw; compared with Zigbee or Z-Wave, there are no batteries to replace every few years.
When briefing a homeowner, always raise battery-replacement cost over 20 years; the comparison with Zigbee usually swings the decision once the labour cost of changing dozens of cells is made explicit.
