Question

Which notation is used in ETS for a Group Address in the 3-level structure?

KNX BasicLearnETS Project DesignEasy
Answer

B — Main/Middle/Sub (e.g. 1/2/3)

Group Addresses in the 3-level structure use the notation Main/Middle/Sub, for example 1/2/3. Choice A uses the dot separator, which is reserved for individual addresses — a classic exam trap. Choice C corresponds to the 2-level structure (Main/Sub, e.g. 1/3), not the 3-level one. Choice D is not a KNX format at all.

Preparation tip

Remember: 3 levels = Main/Middle/Sub with slashes; 2 levels drops the middle field. Dots are exclusively for individual addresses.

All proposed choices (exam context)
  1. A.Area.Line.Device (e.g. 1.2.3)
  2. B.Main/Middle/Sub (e.g. 1/2/3)
  3. C.Group/Subgroup (e.g. 1/3)
  4. D.Hex (e.g. 0x102003)
