Question

An RGB strip driven by a KNX dimmer can alternatively be controlled through separate 1-byte channels, one per colour.

Answer

True

A multi-channel KNX dimming actuator can expose each output as an independent DPT 5.001 brightness Group Object, so red, green and blue are addressed individually. This per-channel mode is useful when the visualisation cannot serialise a 3-byte colour value or when scenes are built per channel. The same hardware usually offers a combined DPT 232.600 Group Object on top, so both interaction styles coexist.

Preparation tip

If you mix DPT 232.600 and per-channel DPT 5.001 on the same actuator, make sure the dimming curves match — otherwise the mixed colour shifts between the two control paths.
